At first glance, this photo seems to show a giraffe with a very long and flexible neck, which passes its head through the bush to look at the lens. But it is actually an optical illusion.
Take a closer look at the image and you will indeed see not one but two giraffes. Photographer Rudi Hulshof had the chance to capture this unique moment while at the Royal Maleware Lodge in South Africa. The guide was leading the visitors through a photo safari when he saw these two bull giraffes fighting. One of them took refuge in a bush, letting its head stick out of the foliage, while the other turned around to the other side, giving the impression that the two giraffes were one.
“I’m always on the lookout to take pictures, but I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time,” says the photographer. “I’ve never seen this before and I don’t think I’ll ever see it again, because it’s very unusual for a giraffe to bury itself so deep in a bush so that only its head protrudes”.
